About

Spanish Armada is a dragon boat team based in Singapore created by Spaniards which aims to enjoy sport, meet different people from different parts of the world and have fun. The core of the team is Spanish but anyone from anywhere is welcome to join us.

How it all started
This initiative originated from the Spanish Business Network in Singapore which is basically a group of Spanish executives, professionals and businessmen that live and work here in Singapore.

After a few weeks of discussion it was decided to create a Spanish dragon boat team. The first training was held on August 2008 in Kallang.

About 3 months later we participated on the 26th Singapore River Regatta, the biggest dragon boat event in Singapore. The event puts together around 3000 paddlers. It was simply amazing.

Membership, requirements and fees
We accept and embrace any person from any nationality and/or gender who is at least 18 years old and knows how to swim.

During trainings and competitions all the required equipment is provided by the team, including: boat, paddles and life jackets. You just need to bring drinking water ;-)

In order to rent the equipment, register the team, sign up for competitions and any other spending we need money. Given our current funding scheme, we require a 100 SGD fee every 3 months per team member.

We welcome first timers and we love people that come to “see how things go”. Those people will not have to pay any money unless they decide to join the team and become a Spanish Armada member :-) That usually happens when a person shows up for training more than 3 times.

Future plans
Grow, grow, grow and grow. We know we are just starting but we are really enthusiastic about the team, the city, the sport, the environment, the river and practically everything. We love having fun. We love paddling.

We will be training the whole year as well as participating on the major Singapore’s dragon boat competitions. We will be having fun :-)

Thanks, acknowledgments and special mentions
We wish to say a big and loud THANK YOU to Tharin Walker and James Weingaertner, American Dragons’ team captain and coach (orderly). They have been and are helping us significantly building the Spanish Armada.
